Social Media is an ever changing landscape, it holds many benefits but you need to be mindful about how you use it now that you are a parent.
Social Media is part of our children’s lives and as parents you have a role to model safe use. The key things to remember with social media are that safety comes through knowing what your child is doing on the internet, through your relationship with them so that they will tell you what they are up to. The important things to think about when your child first starts using social media are what are the rules we want in this family e.g. phones left downstairs at night, mum and dad will have access to your twitter and Facebook pages.
We hold regular social media workshops which you are welcome to attend. You can also access our guidelines to Facebook use and we recommend CEOP as a really helpful website which gives advice and guidelines about all aspects of social media.
The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre is dedicated to eradicating the sexual abuse of children. This website has lots of really useful information about staying safe online.
There is a lot to know about how to be safe and secure on social media websites such as facebook and twitter. We have put together a guide on how to control your privacy settings on facebook to help you choose the correct settings for you.
