Scottish Adoption has seven Trustees reflecting a strong mix of personal and professional experiences of adoption.

Hugo is the Chair of the Board of Trustees and is also an adoptive parent having adopted through Scottish Adoption. Hugo is a Commercial Lawyer with an experience of delivering a variety of projects.

Paul is a consultant neurosurgeon in Edinburgh, and a founder and director of eoSurgical Ltd. He is an adoptive parent, having adopted through Scottish Adoption.

Anness Brown

Anness is a marketing and brand consultant with 25 years’ experience across a range of products including whisky, tourism and hotels. Anness is an adoptive parent who adopted through Scottish Adoption.

Paul Brennan

Ariane Critchley

Ariane is a Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Stirling, teaching primarily on the Certificate in Child Welfare and Protection. She has a practice background, including having worked for Scottish Adoption over a number of years. As a researcher, Ariane is particularly interested in the lives of infants and very young children, and in the experiences of birth parents and relatives affected by adoption.

Alastair is an adoptive parent who adopted through Scottish Adoption. Alastair is an Edinburgh based Social Researcher with experience in research and evaluation in the public and third sector including with youth organisations and young people with care experience.

Until retirement in 2020, Sue was a partner and head of the clinical negligence team at the law firm, Digby Brown.  As well as being on our Board Sue is also on the Board of Clan Childlaw, a law centre for children and young people in central Scotland.

Neil is an adoptive parent, having adopted his daughter through Scottish Adoption.  Neil is a branding and communications professional with over twenty years of experience working in the Scottish third sector.

Ewan is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees and he is an adoptive parent who adopted through Scottish Adoption. Ewan is an Accountant who works in Financial Planning & Analysis.

Prior to his recent retirement Neil spent the majority of his career in Investment Management specialising in statistical analysis and investment research. Neil is an adoptive parent who adopted through Scottish Adoption.

James O’Brien

James is a commercial airline pilot since 2006. He has served as a member of an executive committee for 4 years, 10 years in the employee relations field, has a certificate in astronomy and cosmology, a B.Sc in Computer Science and a Master of Science in Leadership & Management. He has also formed a new trade union for aviation industry employees in the UK (2022).
