Scottish Adoption and Fostering is looking for caring, committed individuals to join our fostering community. If you’re considering fostering, we’d love to hear from you!

Who Can Apply?

• Location: You must live within a 60-mile radius of Edinburgh to ensure access to our support services.
• Age: Applicants must be over 21. There’s no upper age limit—what matters is your ability to provide a loving, secure home.
• Relationship Status: We welcome applications from single people and couples, with or without children. We’re especially eager to hear from LGBTQ+ individuals, ethnic minorities, and disabled people, as these groups are underrepresented.
• Health: Good general physical and emotional health is required. A medical assessment is part of the recruitment process.
• Home: You need a suitable spare bedroom if you’ll be caring for a child over two years old.

Additional Criteria

• Couples must have been in a relationship for at least two years.
• If you have children, your youngest must be at least two years old, with a minimum two-year age gap between them and the child you foster.
• We do not accept applications from those who smoke or vape.
• Certain pets, including some dog breeds, are not compatible with the needs of the children we place.

Fostering Options

We offer a variety of foster care services, including:

• Permanent
• Long Term
• Interim
• Emergency
• Short Breaks

We also specialise in concurrency and foster-to-permanence placements, allowing children to move smoothly into a permanent home.

Financial Support

As a foster carer, you will receive:

• Fee: £309 per week, paid in recognition of your time, expertise, and dedication.
• Allowance: From £200 to £275 per week to cover the child’s expenses, including clothing, toiletries, and household contributions. You’ll also receive double allowance for four weeks annually to cover birthdays, Christmas, and summer holidays.

We’ll help you set up a savings account for the child and support you in giving them pocket money from the allowance.
